Bench of the Week!

I thought I would stick my neck out today and join in with 'Bench of the Week'!
*
This has been started by RuneE of Visual Norway, (a stunning photo-blog - wish there was a secret portal for me to visit Norway from Camelopardalis!). 'Bench of the Week' is not a meme as such, but RuneE welcomes anyone to join in by posting a picture of a bench on Fridays.
*
Here in Giraffe World we have many benches, as we all love to sit and read, or talk, or fall asleep in the sun ...
*
The only bench picture I could find for today has me on it too - I'm sure you won't mind! (It was taken a while ago when I was a little slimmer and didn't need to wear my glasses ...) The seat has a lovely view across the River, and is nicely ornate with the giraffe arm-rests. However, personally I prefer a higher back for neck support while reading my Raffsburgh Review!

What a nice idea Raph - I shall go and take a photo of our garden bench immediately and post it on my blog later.

I like how you read those special long, narrow giraffe newspapers. And my fingers always want to add an "l" when I type Raph!

I look forward to seeing your garden bench Heather!

Our newspapers are very comfy for us to read, Willow - as long as it isn't too windy outside!

What a great idea, but since I'm having major computer problems today, will not be able to participate. I'm shocked I was ALLOWED on your blog Raph, but am so glad I was!

Lovely to have you back - on a bench if you like - I have really missed you.

Jinksy said...

Thinks- where is the bench mark...

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Allowed on my blog, Gaston Studio?! Have you not been able to access it? Glad you did!

(This has given me an idea of 'Aloud on Raph's blog' - a kind of giraffe karaoke singalong!!)

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Thank you Weaver! It's nice to be missed - I feel all warm and fuzzy now! (Springy-summery-busy has been keeping me outdoors more and away from the computer! I'll have to get a mobile Interneck connecktion so I can blog on a bench ...)

The bench mark, Jinksy? Next time I'm there I'll try to lift it and see.

Hi Raph,

A very pleasant way to spend a Friday - bench sitting! I noticed your "missing" specs immediately but not so much the leaner you. Which is to say you look as slim now as you did then!

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Ah thank you Derrick! I'll be able to gleefully eat my Friday evening scones with a clear conscience! (And lots of jam).

Rune Eide said...

Welcome to the Bench world! I can understand that you have problems with lack of head rests on most benches. I must start looking for the high-back variety!

PS Thank you for the nice words about my blog!

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Ooh yes, RuneE! Please take photos if you see any giraffe-friendly high-backed benches!

Barbara Martin said...

Raph, your bench photo is lovely and I've linked you in with RuneE. You look very fine sitting on the bench reading the newspaper in the mid-day sun. As for scones I have a favourite recipe for Gingerbread scones that I will send you.

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Thank you Barbara! 'Very fine' - I am honoured!

I look forward to the Gingerbread scones recipe - I wonder if I'll be able to make them into giraffe-neck shapes? We've just been indulging in enormous fruit scones with lots of strawberry jam!

Hi Raph;
It certainly is a busy time of the year, but nice to see you pause occaisonally to bench sit, keep up to date with world affairs.
How is your garden growing in Giraffe World.

Lyn said...

If you can find the portal to NYC, and take a walk in Central Park you will find many benches with brass nameplates, commemorating worthy citizens. We never miss a beat when it comes to raising money..yet it is fun to read the name and wonder about the person!

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Hi Rosemary.

It certainly is a busy time of year! Our garden is looking very colourful and full of 'growyness' at present. I will do a post about it soon ...

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Lyn, that sounds lovely! I hope there is a portal ... maybe you could post an occasional bench photo on Fridays?

PERBS said...

I followed a link from Barbara and from Rune to Barbara too-- Malyss and I have blogs that post about benches daily. Sometimes there is a view and many times just the bench because they are at private residences.

I had to chuckle at your bench today! Thanks for participating with RuneE. I will be back!

Mathilde

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Thank you PERBS, I'm glad my bench made you chuckle! You are always welcome in Giraffe World.

I will come and visit your blog and Malyss's blog now.

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Merci beaucoup, Mathilde!

Ici en Giraffe World nous parlons un peu de Francais. Je suis tres heureuse de lire votre commentaire.

Bien a vous aussi!

Never mind the bench, I love the attache case!

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Thank you Janet!

I did a post about my case in March for a meme from Eleanor of Thatchwick Cottage: you may like to read it:

A 'Bench of the Week', fabulous! I'll tell Aunt Bench, she'll be thrilled.
Please call in to my blog as I have a nice award for you!

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Thank you Aunt Bernard! Oooh - an award!!

Kat Mortensen said...

Ha ha. I thought we were going to be treated to a photo (or rendering) of Mad Aunt Bernard's bearded sister, Bench.

This IS a treat. I love to rest on a park bench under a tree and just have a good think, don't you?

Kat

I certainly do, Poetikat! Especially when Necky Becky and Nexi are out of earshot, the sun is shining and I have a large bar of chocolate in my briefcase! (Or a custard slice).

Sepiru Chris said...

Hello Raph,

The prodigal scribe returns, and you have set a bench out and everything.

It looks awfully comfy there, do you mind if I join?

It has been a terrifically long time since I have come commenting, or even come visiting. I have been holed up in a crack outside of the e-verse.

I'm not sure how large your visual field in your telescope is, but if you have seen a blur of activity, slowly, and paradoxically, putting on weight due to a surplus of work and stress and a surfeit of any life balance, well that could have been me.

I have quite missed coming by, and will dash into the archives in a moment, although I did see your Necktune's chariot the other day.

I was actually a bit worried about that.

Not that I don't trust your naval architectural skills, but I was worried that maybe you were drifting back to your old career.

On earth there are truly terrible things happening with global finances. Vast credit shoals are becoming uncovered and tearing the hulls of many a poor capital privateer.

But, it never occurred to me that our fiscal neap tide might be having an effect on Camelopardalis, too.

However, seeing that image of the chariot, I worried where the currents were taking you.

I mean, your last career was in the accountant sea, no?

Anyway, I trust all is well.

Please send my best to Maureen and the girls. Things are still hectic and blurry down here on Earth.

Chromatic distortion in our lenses has made the green go away in our numeraire currency and economy, and no one quite knows what to do.

But, I'm blathering.

I'm just delighted that you are well, and look forward to returning, while I am able.

All the best from down here.

Tschuess,
Chris

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Hello Sepiru Chris - glad to have you back! I've enjoyed your giraffiti, (and Pommes' exploits), while you've been away.

I hope your surfeit of stress and weight is disappearing, and wish you much giraffitude!

Our Necktune's Chariot is enjoying the currents, guided by Captain Gurgle. The tides of Planet Earth do not pull our waters on Camelopardalis. Our shoals are shafe. Our neckonomy is nonexistent, anyway!

Maureen and the girls (and Littl' Nicky with his micro-florets!) send their regards.

Looks like a nice bench and a beautiful view! Maybe I will have to look around for a nice bench to take a picture of :)

Thank you Lauren!

I look forward to seeing your photo of a bench.

I love that bench, Mr Giraffe. And you look so calm and composed reading that newspaper. What's the name of it? 'The Neck York Times' :-)?

Greetings from London.
