Our Family Favourites

Necky Becky has insisted that I include a post about our favourite presents this year! Who am I to argue ...

First of all, she would have everyone know that her 'bestest pressie' was the pencil case printed with the image of a wild giraffe sticking it's tongue out. A pose which she now proudly emulates whenever she can!

Next in her order of importance is, of course, her beloved Neckshund dog Hals. He received a football, which we have all fallen over several times in the last week.

Nexi couldn't decide which of her presents was her favourite - she loves them all. She received lots of nailvarnish and other strong-smelling items with which to paint herself, her room, everyone else's room, and anything else she can get her hands on.

Toddler Littl' Nicky also follows the artistic line and has been enjoying his new paints and easel. His painting below is a portrait of me.

Which leaves Maureen and I! We had many beautiful gifts. Maureen received a bottle of her favourite honey drink, I have a subscription to the Raffsburgh Astronomical Society, and we both have stacks of new books to read.
*
Best of all is our special Intergalactic Viewing Box. Fitted to our TV, it receives many extra Planet Earth channels, enabling us to see some of the wonderful films and music performances recommended by our dear new bloggy friends!

Hi Raph,

Glad everyone is happy with their pressies.

For a moment there, I thought Littl' Nicky's portrait was suggesting you were green with envy!!

What a rousing blog you have here, I am quite thrilled :))
And Moomintrolls are only ones, who make my youngest granddaughter (1year 5months) peaceful during her visits in the middle of stranger people, her parents have DVD always with them :)

Happy New Year, 2009 to you and your giraffe family.
Regards Leena

Derrick - I like to think Littl' Nicky has represented my environmentally-conscious nature! (Or maybe I'd eaten too many left-over mincepies and sprouts that day ...)

Thank you Leena, and Best Wishes for 2009 to you too!

I do not have a Moomin DVD yet - my latest additions to my Moomintroll collection are the two books from the comic strips Tove Jansson did for the London Evening News in the 1950s. They are brilliant!

Hello Ralph, thanks for visiting my blog, because that made me go to yours. And I was pleasantly surprised to meet your family of giraffes. Beautifully portrayed! It reminds me of a series on TV about Barba Pappa, Barba Mamma, Barba Bientje, Barba Bob etc. I don't know if there was such a series in English. This family could take any shape they want.

Me again! Yes you can skate on these canals for miles. They are all connected. It's even better to skate where the windmills are.

Thank you Reader Wil.

I had not heard of the Barba family series - it sounds interesting.

Skating for miles would be fantastic! I would only be on my feet for about 2 metres - but I can skate wonderfully in my imagination ...

Thank you Willow. Necky Becky will be pleased, as it was her idea!

Hi, Ralph! Just got your comment/visit. Sometimes it's nice to sit in a chunky sweater, all cosy. We do that in winter even though the sun still shines! What great books did you get for Christmas? Give us a list. I just read The Madonnas of Leningrad by Debra Dean and My life as a Fake by Peter Carey, the Aussie writer. I watched the DVD of Nicholas Nickleby by Dickens in the hols and now am enthused to dig out my old copy. I just loved that book when I was young. Have a good afternoon further!

Hi Eleanor - thanks for your visit.

The book I'm currently most engrossed in is called 'Painted Gardens - English Watercolours 1850-1914' by Penelope Hobhouse and Christopher Wood. I'm very interested in the arts and gardens of planet Earth! It contains exquisite paintings which fill me with gardening (and painting) inspiration and enthusiasm for the year ahead!

Thank you Dee! You are always welcome here, and I shall be visiting you again too.

Ooh hoo! I'd like to get an intergalactic viewing box for Christmas.
Books are best though. (Nail varnish is fun and so's a football). You guys are so lucky!

You are right, we are lucky, Kat!

Do you have intergalactic viewing boxes on planet Earth?

Hi Raph! Hope I haven't disturbed you eating cake!
I can relate to falling over the ball that your dog got as a present - I have done the self same thing a hundred times in the past few weeks but would have thought four legs rather than two would have made it easier.

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Weaver - I tripped over Hals' new ball while carrying the cake ... so he got to eat the lot!

When you visited my blog, I'm sorry to say I forgot to come to have a good look around. Now I'm putting myself down as a follower in order that I don't miss any of your wonderful future posts.

I love your blog because I can come here to escape my life. It has one of my favourite African animals, the giraffe.

Barbara - thank you so much, I am so pleased!

I've got so many things I want to post about - they are all on bits of paper floating around the house ...

Lovely to have you here!

Raph G. Neckmann said...

Thank you for the compliment Jeane! You are very welcome here!

The sun is shining - I think I'll go and eat some of Girth's new cake in the garden to celebrate...
